Machintosh (Mac):The computer of new age
Macintosh systems are mainly targeted towards the home, education, and creative professional markets. Production of the Macintosh is based upon a vertical integration model in that Apple facilitates all aspects of its hardware and creates its own operating system. This is in contrast to PCs, where different brands of hardware run operating systems such as Microsoft Windows.
Apple has introduced a number of innovations in direct relation to the Macintosh 128K that were later adopted by the rest of industry as a standard for the design of computers. Possibly Apple's number-one effect on the industry was the first large-scale use of a graphical user interface in operating system software. Today, almost every mainstream operating system relies on a graphical user interface, and many operating systems still echo the design of the original Macintosh graphical user interface, such as the use of the ?double click,? ?drag and drop,? and the mouse used for them.
The earliest form of internal Macintosh expandability was the Processor Direct Slot (PDS), present from the SE onwards. It was basically a shortcut to the CPU socket, not a bus?which also meant that parts for the PDS slot were tied to a specific Macintosh model, with the notable exception of the LC PDS slot, which was standardized across the entire LC line. Current Macintoshes use the Intel Core, Intel Core 2 and Intel Xeon 5100 series microprocessors.
For peripherals, the Apple Desktop Bus was introduced with the Macintosh II and Macintosh SE. It was the standard input connector for keyboards and mice until USB was introduced with the iMac. The last Macintosh to have ADB was the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White), alongside USB. Other legacy Macintosh peripheral connectors include the serial GeoPort and the AAUI port for networking.
Apple?s actions were criticized by many people in the software community not directly involved in the lawsuits, including the Free Software Foundation (FSF), makers of the open source GNU tools. The FSF characterized the lawsuits as an attempt by Apple Computer to prevent anyone from making a user interface that worked even vaguely like a Macintosh, and called for a boycott of GNU software for the Macintosh platform. The FSF ended its boycott in 1995. Current versions of the Macintosh ship with some GNU tools installed, and the GNU compiler gcc is an integral part of Apple's XCode development platform.

Bifocals And Computers Don't Mix
Do you wear bifocals? Do you find when trying to use your computer it is hard to see the screen? Do you have to make head/neck adjusts? Have you ever thought about trying computer/reading glasses? If you answered yes, read on.
When you finally graduate into bifocals now is the time the fun starts. If you have the line that separates your bifocals from your distance vision; it is a hard adjustment to make. If you have the blended glasses it is a much easier transformation. Either way you will definitely have to reorient yourself when walking or reading.
When you use your computer and you have the blended/or line bifocals it is a huge adjustment for your eyes. You will sit in front on the computer screen moving your head up, down and sideways trying to see out of the small area designated for reading.
If you wear <1> make my words bold computer/reading glasses it is a much easier transformation. When you sit at the computer you do not have to make adjustments to your head and neck in order to see the screen. You can just sit down and start typing or reading.
With computer/reading glasses if you like to lie down and read this is possible. When you have computer/reading glasses they can be tinted to relieve computer glare. Your eyes will love you.

How To Take Care Of Your Laptop Computer
How To Take Care Of Your Laptop Computer
by: Joe Chianese
As the proud owner of a laptop computer, you'll want to keep your machine in the best possible condition.
Aside from cleaning your screen and dusting the keyboard, however, you'll need to take a few extra steps to maintain your laptop's health:
-- Play it cool
A laptop computer generates a lot of heat, especially when running the latest high-powered software. Too much heat and you risk damaging the internal circuitry.
Always try to keep your laptop in a well-ventilated, cool environment. And ensure you don't block the fan grills on the sides, back, or bottom of the machine at any time.
-- Handle the screen carefully
Avoid touching or playing with your LCD screen.
Yes, it might be fun to watch the waves generated by your finger against the screen, but LCD displays are fragile devices that must be cared for.
Take care when cleaning the screen too, and use only approved cleaning materials.
You won't want to pay the money for screen repairs or, even worse - a new machine entirely.
-- Don't drop it
Whatever you do, don't drop your laptop computer! Keep it safe inside of a carrying case when moving around or traveling.
Don't leave it on the edge of a table or on an unstable support of some kind. One ill fated drop to the floor could spell death for your mobile office.
Try to make sure the rubber feet underneath are in good condition and are still attached. This will prevent the device from sliding around accidentally.
-- Be careful with those drinks...
If you need to have a drink while working or playing, be careful not to spill it.
Your laptop computer could suffer the consequences from just a few drops of liquid poured in the right places.
While you probably do eat and drink around it regardless, you will want to occasionally wipe down the edges, the keyboard, the touchpad, and maybe even wipe down the screen to keep any dirt from accumulating.
-- Just say no to viruses
Security wise, make sure you obtain an anti-virus program.
Secondly, keep it updated!
Buying an anti-virus one month and not updating it for the next six really negates it purpose. Your laptop computer could be exposed to hundreds and thousands of new viruses every month if you don't update your virus definitions.
Most anti-virus programs have automatic update methods, eliminating the need for you to have to remember to do it manually.
-- Avoid Popups
Pop-ups are particularly annoying on a laptop computer. Trying to close a bunch of windows without a regular mouse can be a nuisance.
You'll want a pop-up blocker, such as the Google Toolbar (located at tools.google.com), to prevent these pop- up ads.
Many intrusive forms of advertising, and even some viruses, can install software on your machine by using various forms of pop-ups. It's best to get yourself a blocker and avoid the situation entirely.
-- Use a firewall
Always utilize a firewall on your Internet or network- enabled laptop computer. Even if you use Windows XP's built- in firewall (or purchase one from such companies as Norton), your security will greatly benefit from it.
Blocking out all the unnecessary ports and closing all the loopholes will prevent a hacker or virus from freely entering your hard drive.
So there you go. Combine all of the above tactics and help your laptop enjoy a happier and healthier lifestyle!

How To Prevent Spyware Attacking Your Computer
Spyware is software or hardware installed on a computer
without a user's knowledge. It gathers information and
reports it back to its source. It ties up bandwidth, slows
down CPU speed and generally is a nuisance.
In its more malicious forms, it can disrupt the PC so much
that it is unusable; it can run up modem bills, it can spam
or send copies of itself to everyone in your address book
and it can download pornographic material to your PC.
The last is probably the one most likely to make everyone
stand up and take notice. Downloading porn at the office
can get you fired, downloading child porn anywhere can get
you arrested.
The only way to keep these and all the other problems
associated with spyware from infecting your life and
disrupting your activities is prevention. As the old
saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure.
There are numerous programs available (both for free and
for pay) that offer protection from spyware and its related
cohorts. Most free programs remove spyware that's already
been downloaded and installed to your machine, such as Ad-
Aware, one of the first original anti-spyware programs.
The free version requires that you scan to capture and
remove spyware. The pay for version includes a real-time
scanner that actually prevents spyware from downloading or
installing itself.
There are numerous other products on the market, but don't
be taken in by their pronouncements of being anti-spyware.
Be wary, a few of the free programs are just spyware
themselves.
Security for your PC at the home includes using up-to-date
virus software, installing an effective firewall, employing
reputable anti-spyware tools, making sure all patches and
being sure to install all updates for the operating system.
The best thing to do is to avoid risky online behavior or
the downloading of every free offer that literally "pops
up".
Never download anything from an unknown source. A lot of
home PC users can find their machines besieged by problems
because they downloaded something they weren't sure about
or just assumed was safe. Don't assume, be sure. You can
even check security settings for different websites you
visit. Be sure what you're downloading is from a reputable
source.
You wouldn't invite just anyone who knocked on your door
into your house; you shouldn't let any file or program into
your computer. Spyware at its best is a nuisance, and a
potentially dangerous and damaging element that can cost
you real time, and worse of all, money.
